From scan to estimate: getting numbers out of the model

Capturing the house is the first half. The second half is getting the numbers into whatever you price with — and the right path depends on what that is.

Read them off the model

The most common path and the one people underrate. The scan's measurements are visible in the app, per room: floor area, wall areas, perimeter, ceiling height, opening counts. For a bid built in a spreadsheet or a familiar estimating program, pulling up the room and typing the number is a few seconds per line and requires no integration at all.

The important part is not the transfer. It is that the number you type was measured instead of remembered.

Share the scan with whoever prices it

If the person scanning and the person estimating are different people, send the scan. It opens for viewing and measurement on the recipient's device — including on a non-LiDAR iPad, which covers the estimator who never leaves the office. They read the dimensions themselves rather than asking you for them.

That removes the actual bottleneck in most shops: the phone call where someone in the field gets asked for a measurement they did not write down.

Export the geometry as USDZ

For design and modeling work rather than pricing, every scan exports as USDZ — which opens in SketchUp, Blender, and AR viewers. Use this when somebody downstream needs the model, not the numbers.

Trusso and ContractorOS

Scanstead comes from the same shop as Trusso, our estimating tool for contractors, and Scanstead access is included with a ContractorOS subscription. If you are already pricing in that stack, the scan and the estimate live in the same account.

Pick the shortest path

Most people need one number per room per trade. That is a glance and a keystroke, not a pipeline.

The measurement does not have to travel far. It just has to be right when it gets there.
